Walkable to many restaurants (some closer than others) and grocery stores, and adjacent to huge open fields and a playground. We lived in San Diego for over a decade so this was a homecoming, this time with kids, so we knew the location was great before we arrived. It’s far too overpriced at $200 a night for what it is.… It’s obvious they don’t have enough housekeeping or kitchen staff evict really let’s it down. The bed sheets don’t fit and come undone from the mattress! All in all, this hotel could be great, all the basics are there. Breakfast is poor in choice and far less options than comparative hotels which are cheaper. Could be a soundproofing issue, it’s BAD. Never experienced noise like it from guests surrounding and upstairs. Fortunately I spotted a cleaners trolly in the hall and resorted to having to restock myself…. Pathetic towel provision for two people - requested more towels 3x over two days. Room wasn’t ready an hour after check in time, we had to wait a considerable period with 5 suitcases whilst heavily pregnant and needing to lie down after a long travel day 2. This is a relatively new and modern building, however there are major failings which whilst all easily fixable, massively let the place down. Select your next hotel somewhere else.…īasics are missing. Bottom line, NONE of our wedding party liked this place and will never go back when visiting our son. I learned they make excuses for mistakes. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Wife comes to the room and first thing she says is “the big guy is rude”. They reverted the charge when we asked why. Yes, they did, because they put the little discount for the room rate on the bill, so why not the parking discount. She said they didn’t know we were part of the wedding. On top of that, we were supposed to get a little discount on parking down to $15 per day as part of the wedding party, but they tried to charge us $19. THE BILLING: Surprise, they added on an additional fee not mentioned in advance or on their web site when the total bill goes over $1,000! I think it was over $30. They know nobody is going to pay $50, but maybe they can get $19 from you. The hotel owns the parking areas and they set the pricing. It hasn’t been government property since the Navy turned it over to the city in the mid-1990s. You kidding me! The girl in the morning would say “It’s $50 or $60 downtown, and you get a better rate here because it is government property”. It was hard to even find a place to sit after maneuvering around people to get food. LOTS of people, more than I ever experienced at a hotel. Super greasy bacon that was half cooked and not crispy. And the outlets have never been replaced because after thousands of things being plugged in, our cords would easily fall out. The toilet would continue to run water unless raising the lever manually every time. The kitchen area sink was stopped up, so we had to call them to unplug it. THE ROOM: We were in a dimly lighted old room on the first floor and no view. They scattered us all over the place in separate buildings. You would think that with reserving months in advance that they could at least put us in the same building and maybe even on the same floor to be close to each other, but no. It gave guests a simple discount, but we could have also stayed at the courtyard next door and got the same room rate with a nice view. Our son set out a block of rooms for guests to reserve for their wedding. We have same concerns as many other reviewers. I can’t imagine some of the high reviews unless they were homeless the night before. They will franchise just about any subpar hotel. There was a time when Hilton was a high-end property.
